HIGH SCHOOL DISCIPLINE
I was told to talk about High School discipline for one of my classes (that was studying the law and silly rules). I took handbooks from both the public school and private school in my high school, simplified them, and presented them to my students. I also told them I didn't know a lot about the French discipline system, and we exchanged ideas.
I started off the lesson asking them if they thought America or France was more strict and why. Then we talked about how the news, media, music, films, etc. influences our opinions on other cultures. And I mentioned a TV show "SODA" that they have in France (popular with the tween group), and I said that I am a foreigner and I watch French television and I get certain opinions on the discipline system in high schools (the protagonist in SODA is always in the principal's office). They liked the fact that I am "hip."
I explained that certain things are taken away when you misbehave in high school in the USA, like prom or a parking pass. They were all eager to know about the prom and that most people get cars to drive to school (at least in my private high school).
To make sure they learned a little, I made fake profiles and had the class pretend to be the principal. We took the fake kids and "disciplined" them in both France and the USA.
Again, not the most interesting thing, but I think they learned something! Here are the fake profiles I passed out.
